Boha Glass’s Modern Asia Expedition
As some of you may know, Boha is on tour in Asia at the second, looking for up-and-coming artists, across a wide array of creative fields. From community pottery to stone-carved smiling Buddha statues, mosaic-rimmed mirrors to wonderfully embroidered standard clothes, and a great deal extra in addition to.
Immediately after arriving in Kuala Lumpur, we read about the key bars that dotted the metropolis and produced a strategy to consider and discover as quite a few as possible – purely for study purposes of system (cough!).
We found ourselves ringing doorbells in peculiar alleyways, slipping via backpacker hostels with sleepy, confused, just-off-the-airplane attendees, stood in their room doorway, asking yourself why well dressed folks have been wandering the corridors outdoors their place at 1 am. We climbed dark, spiral staircases – hidden at the back again of occupied dining establishments and this a single was the most effective of all…
From the outside the house, it seemed like a typical outdated avenue shop, with the only clue being the name of the bar (PS150) sprayed in black graffiti paint on the facet of the wall. We walked back and forth alongside the avenue, pondering Google had given us duff info before we hesitantly tried the door for the initially time. It went on a large amount more than in which Anna was sitting down and the cocktails were being great!
We ended up stumbling dwelling (the pavements were being in a quite lousy state of repair service 😉 ) to our hotel in the wee hrs of the morning, thoroughly feeling that we experienced experienced a really adventurous night!

Street Art – Penang and KL
A little even further up the coast is the fine old UNESCO heritage city of Penang. In the coronary heart of aged George Town, the put is abuzz with some excellent avenue art. It all commenced in 2012 when Lithuanian-born community resident Ernest Zacharevic was commissioned to brighten up the city’s fading facades with artwork depicting the lives of locals. Considering the fact that then, extra artists have additional their personal mark to generate some lively road art that surely enlivens the city’s old Stucco walls.
To see all the art is a little bit of a schlep, specifically in the roaring heat of July, but we managed to drag ourselves about to see a sizeable part of the art (although perspiring profusely). Sometimes, you would walk a couple of clicks, only to be greeted with a mural so pale that it was difficult to discern what it at first was. But, most of the time it was effectively well worth it, and some had been extremely close to a bar, so we experienced a fantastic excuse to ‘cool off’ under the admirers on the shaded verandas after working with up some significant shoe leather-based.
Including Thailand, Bali, Singapore and Vietnam, Malaysia was not our favourite place, but the magic formula bars and the road art produced our time there fairly satisfying.
If you are setting up your very own experience to Malaysia, we would unquestionably advise KL, Penang and Melaka. Just be absolutely sure to verify out the street art in all 3 metropolitan areas and see how numerous mystery bars you can uncover in KL!
